IT IS OFFICIAL: Orgoo is Vaporware

IT'S TIME TO BRING ORGOO BACK INTO THE NEWS.

Being still in private beta in almost two years, the promising webmail/IM combo Orgoo is now tagged as vaporware. I had to post it because the private beta is too long for the public to launch.
Orgoo was released as private beta in late 2007, but its period is prolonged following some alleged critical and major issues, downtimes, states of being offline, and an alleged, undocumented DDoS attack. Orgoo has not posted any new news on the site since December 2008. As software, Orgoo has never released any updates to it in public. The DDoS attack I described possibly caused a major downtime or a lengthy maintenance that in turn, extends the private beta. These factors forced me to brand Orgoo as vaporware, although it sent an email to me regarding that the public launch is near (I was put on Orgoo's waiting list). It also made Orgoo a possible candidate of the upcoming 2009 Vaporware Awards by Wired News. I suggest that Orgoo will be launched to the public in Q4 2009 or early 2010. This post may force Orgoo to be in public beta if some of the best Internet news sites mention the post and the recent vaporware branding.

Bug 508950 Day: Type into the Full Login Details Momentarily when the LOASPDALI Bug Attacks!

This day, August 7, 2009 (GMT+8) is Bug 508950 Day. This day commemorates the filing of Bug 508950, the so-called "Log out and associated saved password delete after log in", or "LOASPDALI" bug into Mozilla's online bug tracker. Some sites are affected by this bug, such as Facebook, Friendster, and Yahoo!. This bug is performed when someone logs in to a site that has many saved passwords associated with it, and after a few clicks, automatically logs out and all the saved passwords described are deleted unattendedly. The LOASPDALI bug is categorized as major, and it affects Firefox 3.5. I suggest that the bug will be fixed in Firefox 3.5.3, to be released on early September, 2009. I also suggest all users of Firefox 3.5 not to save any passwords and log in by typing the full login details. The "plague" will continue until the bug is fixed.

This blog's privacy is very strict. Please do not mention the name of the blog, its author, and the full URL of this blog if this post comes out in the news.

Update 06:12 PM GMT+8: I edited the upcoming version number of Firefox 3.5 because of an error commited by me.

Unikan's Voice Poll for August 2009: TPB Is No Longer No.1, So What Now?

According to Alexa (source: a third-party site), The Pirate Bay's domination of the number one spot among torrent sites has ended. A Dutch torrent site, Mininova, takes over TPB's place. Following the conviction of the two founders of TPB, its fate at the hands of Global Gaming Factory X (GGFX) is sealed. GGFX has announced that TPB will decentralize its operations, shut down its trackers and leechers, and become itself a paid service.

If you want to still love TPB even after the big changes in its life, here's the Unikan's Voice Poll for August 2009 (commenting is possible):

Did you still support TPB even if became a paid service run by a third-party company?
Yes, I want to believe that some torrents that are free to download is still there.
No, I will turn to other torrent sites with anonymous uploading.

[RECOMMENDED] Do you want gmaker.exe to be downloaded quickly?

To answer this question, you will need Download Accelerator Plus 9.x. Make sure that your internet connection is not dial-up and the DAP settings below:
(The "Connection Type/Speed" selection is blackened to conceal the author's connection speed.)

Now, go to http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Game-Maker-Download-18870.html and right-click on the download location. Now, select "Download with DAP". Mozilla Firefox 3.0.12 or 3.5.1 is recommended. Finally, "Run" or "Save", then your fast Game Maker download should begin.

(Please keep in mind that if you want to download Game Maker from from the YoyoGames mirror, then the download is slow. So recommend my post.)

How to fix the "No installed Python found" bug with Blender 2.49a with Python 2.6.2 Installed

At times, if you want to launch Blender 2.49a, a message may appear on the Blender startup command prompt. This message is:

Compiled with Python version 2.5.
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Checking for installed Python... No installed Python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run.
Continuing happily.

If you have two or more Python installations and uninstalled one of them (not Python 2.6.2, as needed by Blender 2.49a to run properly), that message may appear. To fix the problem, reinstall Python 2.6.2 here (depending on your OS): http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.2/
Please do not open the installation file (depending on your OS, again) fron the Web, as opening the file may cause problems with the installation progress. There's no need to restart your computer, after you reinstalled Python 2.6.2 successfully, run Blender and the above message is not displayed unless you have installed another Python version.

What MetroGames Apps are Similar

Remember that...

Biotronic is similar to Bejeweled?
Waka-Waka is similar to Pac-Man?
Word Island is similar to Scrabble?

Except...
Pixel Ranger, and Typing Maniac, that are original in form?

That's it. All MetroGames apps are five. And they contain interesting facts.

Today, I installed Python 2.5.4 on my computer and restarted it.
My specs are:

About "Vaporware" TV Shows

There are some instances that a trailer of an upcoming TV show is shown but it takes too long to bring the show on the air. Such a show is considered a "vaporware" TV show. The occurrence of vaporware TV shows are common in Asia and Africa. A typical vaporware TV show takes much time to put it on the air after its initial announcement. In some cases, the staff cancels a vaporware TV show before its pilot episode. For example, a TV company airs trailers of a vaporware TV show and when seems nothing happened to the show, the staff just cancels the TV shows. Another example that a TV company launches the pilot episode of another TV show a few years in the making.

That's it. I am accepting any comments on this post.

About Hacked Main Pokèmon Versions for Handhelds

Do you believe that there are hacked versions of the main series of Pokèmon games for the handhelds?
The official names of the main Pokèmon games for the handhelds (not the spin-offs) are (in English):

  • Red
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Yellow
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Crystal
  • Ruby
  • Sapphire
  • Emerald
  • FireRed
  • LeafGreen
  • Diamond
  • Pearl
  • Platinum
  • HeartGold
  • SoulSilver
If your Pokèmon game that would like to play has a different title from those above, then that game is a hacked version. Hacked Pokèmon versions are easy to detect because of the previous sentence. These games are not licensed and/or sponsored by Nintendo because they are fan-created versions of the main Pokèmon series of video games for the handhelds.
Please be honest and patient if you try a Pokèmon game, hacked versions may contain more bugs than theire base games.

How to Get Fonts Used by Warcraft III Other than Friz Quadrata - For Free!

Want all fonts used by Warcraft III? I have an idea. These fonts are:

forum.mygame.ph - This is Really Safe?

I have the Web of Trust add-on installed on my Firefox 3. One day, when a site called "forum.mygame.ph" in the Google search results, at the right of the first result, I found out that the site has a "poor reputation." However, when I viewed the McAfee SiteAdvisor results for all websites with the domain "mygame.ph", these sites are safe.
Microgaming, please conduct a sitewide and server maintenance on April 28 to fix that WOT rating.

All-Missile Warfare - It's Only a Concept

This post is in a form of a concept and it is not intended to harm national security and/or link to any military secret.
In approximately the next millennium, firearms for military use will be on the verge of obsolescence. In that case, all powerful countries will have to change their strategy in favor of missiles as the only weapons in war. Newer wars during that period will have to be fought using missiles. Missile technology is increasing, and electronic defenses against them are becoming more technologically advanced and more sophisticated. Missiles in the future will be fired from the shoulder, as in antitank and antiaircraft missiles, or have heat seekers and the resistance to enemy radar detection. Large missiles of the future fired from space or from an earth-based base can destroy a large metropolitan area or even a small country. Missile-toting countries will have to reinforce defenses in case a war has started by another missile-armed nation. If that country launches a preemptive strike on a large city or an important military installation located in a warring nation to decrease its will to fight back, that nation will have to get help from a friendly nation that has powerful missiles to fight back before the time is up. Future wars that use only missiles are more costly than World War II, and bring more havoc to almost all participating nations.

After the war, the suffering nations will take much time to rebuild themselves economically, physically, and environmentally. Thus an all-missile war is more destructive than wars that use conventional strategy and tactics.
The specific names of nations, weapons, and other locations used in this post are not mentioned for security reasons.

The Pushdown Effect - Finale (Part 3 of 3)

For those concerned over the ads that appear on many sites...
the final part of The Pushdown Effect will suffice.
Want no ads on your Wikia-hosted site you accessed with fast loading? Just use Adblock Plus if you use Firefox 3 or Adblock Pro if you're using Internet Explorer 8. If you don't log in and you used Adblock Plus, here's the result:

If you don't use Adblock Pro here's the result:If you log in into a Wikia site, this will happen if you open a non-special page:

In the first screenshot, Adblock Plus blocks ads from appearing, but not the pushdowns. In the second, ads and pushdowns appear when viewing that page with IE7 (extensions, like Adblock Pro, are not compatible with that version). In the last, when logged in, all ads and pushdowns are hidden.
If you want ad-free and pushdown-free browsing, register into Wikia.

THE VERDICT
Pushdowns are one of the leading causes of slow page loading and annoyances over many people. The best way to avoid them is to block them with Adblock Plus for FF3 and Adblock Pro for IE8. This makes people viewing their pages with ads to be time-saving and free-space-efficient. Now, destroy these pushdowns!

A Comment on the Animated GIF Creation Software

My first animated GIF software is UnFREEz, but the final GIF animation is slightly pixellated. Next, I installed GIMP 2.6.5, then I installed Beneton Movie GIF. However, the final GIF is slow. I unistalled UnFREEz and Beneton Movie GIF and downloaded two GIF-related software packed in their respective ZIP archives. However, their features are worser than other animated GIF software. I searched for others of that kind, but most of them are shareware or demoware. Later, when I was searching the Web for making GIF animations, I found that my GIMP has the power to create animated GIF images, but the resulting animation is still slow.
If you want to create animated GIF images, please rely on GIMP because it is a free multi-purpose image manipulation software and not on shareware or demoware of its kind because for a number of reasons.
I am now a GIMP and freeware addict for now on. I can't believe that freeware programs are as powerful as the shareware counterparts.

Adobe Photoshop vs. GIMP: In Terms of Disadvantages

My computer formerly has an Adobe Photoshop CS2 trial version, but I let it finish the trial. Later, I tried installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended crack, but only one component has been installed: Adobe Version Cue CS3. I have uninstalled these software because they must be activated if their respective trial periods end. Nwo I have installed the latest stable version of the GNU Image Manipulation Program for my Windows XP SP3, meeting the former's system requirements.
Now I searched over the Internet for the features and cons of Adobe Photoshop and GIMP, so I want you to compare these software in terms of disadvantages in order for you to tell what do you like to install one of these software. (As of their latest stable version)
DISADVANTAGES OF ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

  • Costly for a residential user
  • Does not support Unix and all Unix-like OS except Mac OS X
  • Take more disk space whenever your installation choice is full or custom
  • Installation and uninstallation is longer and can be subject to errors
  • Does not support all vector graphics formats
  • For a newbie, the many features can be confusing
  • System requirements are higher
  • Shareware, 30-day trial starting from first use
  • Downloading of trial version takes hours to complete
  • Must be activated if you are concerned about cracks and keygens
DISADVANTAGES OF GIMP
  • Does not support all RAW image formats unless plug-ins for them are installed
  • The user manual for the latest version is under development
  • To run GIMP in a different language, you must endure the long process of changing the system language (the language I'm referring is not related to computer languages)
DISADVANTAGES OF BOTH
  • Do not support Mac OS X Snow Leopard, as well as the two newest OS under the Windows family
  • May slow down if multiple images are opened
RECOMMENDATIONS
I recommend GIMP for residential users because it's freeware and easy to use, but I recommend Adobe Photoshop for business use. If you want to work with RAW formats and vector graphics, GIMP is the most preferred. If you are a Linux or BSD user, then you will fall in love with GIMP. Nevertheless, GIMP is the most versatile image editor around because of its great features.

Videos by ABS-CBN still show up on YouTube (?)

According to the Wikipedia article on the criticism of top online video sharing provider YouTube, the Philippine television network ABS-CBN dislikes its videos to be uploaded to YouTube. A sentence in that article says that "Philippine TV channel ABS-CBN also does not allow its videos to be on YouTube." does not make a very clear sense, the evidence is this video by YouTuber Kenyotic:

Bonus:
Q: Will ABS-CBN take down all of its videos on YouTube and why?
A: Please comment on this post to get your answer.

The Pushdown Effect (Part 2 of 3)

This time, let us discuss why pushdowns occur in most sites "Powered by _____Wiki" (as described in Part 1).

Let us gather an example site, Bulbapedia. Because it is "Powered by MediaWiki" (MediaWiki is written in PHP), ads and the resulting pushdowns are displayed except for the main page and special pages without Adblock Plus enabled. Below are parts of a screenshot of the Bulbapedia page on the Pokemon Mantine displaying the pushdowns:
This s-pushdown on the top has no ad.

This s-pushdown has an ad. It "pushes" the category links down.
Another screenshot of that page has no ads and pushdowns because of my Adblock Plus:
NOTE: THESE SCREENSHOTS WERE TAKEN OF JANUARY 29, 2009.

Without Adblock Plus enabled, pushdowns are possible in most websites "Powered by MediaWiki" and only a very few websites "Powered by other wikis other than MediaWiki" has some of these pushdowns. Google provides more than half of the ads that cause those pushdowns.

Next month: How about the pushdowns on Wikia, another website "Powered by MediaWiki"? What is the REAL truth about pushdowns? Stay tuned!

WANTED: [GM]-=M@X=- and [GM]DarkWeed

The faces of [GM]-=M@X=- and [GM] DarkWeed are finally seen to the public! Their respective genders are male and female. Based on this data and Junji Vergara and Jac Natividad's experiences with their latest separate dates with these Special Force Online GameMasters, you can tell me the true identity of these GMs — in a form of a comment to this post.

This is the official wanted poster.

The Pushdown Effect (Part 1.5 of 3 [special])

(This is the special part 1.5 of The Pushdown Effect, posted two weeks before I can post part 2. - Duskwrath)

This time, let us discuss the relationship of a few websites with JavaScripts that enable viewers to show/hide ads and pushdowns.
Case 1: Thottbot.com
Most websites beginning with "thottbot.com", display pages that have "Expand Ad" and "Close Ads". If you clicked on "Close Ads", then the "Expand Ad" will disappear and "Show Ads" will appear. If you clicked on "Show Ads", "Expand Ad" and "Close Ads" will reappear. The mechanism of the act on the previous sentence shows the occurance of a s-pushdown that its size can be reduced with Adblock Plus and if you don't have Adblock Plus and clicked on "Expand Ad", the pushdown size will be increased. If you clicked on "Close Ads", the pushdown will be minimized.
Case 2: AboutUs.org
If you open a website starting with http://www.aboutus.org (except special pages directly linking to this site), "Hide Ads" will appear. If you clicked to it, the page will reload with "Show Ads". If you clicked to it, the page will reload with "Hide Ads". The mechanism: Without Adblock Plus, when you open a page starting with http://www.aboutus.org (again, except special pages), ads and the resulting s-pushdowns will appear. With Adblock Plus, the ads disappear and the pushdowns decreased in size (still with "Hide Ads"). No matter you have Adblock Plus or not and clicked on "Hide Ads", the pushdowns will disappear (can be reversed by clicking on "Show Ads").

THE FACT: These domains with such features are included in less than 0.1% of all websites that include that features. Make your choice: Show Ads or Hide Ads, or Show Pushdowns or Hide Pushdowns.

Special Force Online (Soldier Front) Inventory Tips

Scared of kicking you while you are in the Inventory while inside a game room in Special Force Online (Soldier Front)? I am giving some tips for "safe" Inventory entrance.
1. If you want to enter the Inventory while in a waiting room, make sure that the host (indicated by the king chess piece at the left of the national flag of the host's current character) is also in the Inventory, but be quick!
2. If you want to enter the Inventory while in the lobby, block invites first. Invites from other players in the lobby restrict your access only to the invitation dialog box with two buttons below: "Confirm" and "Cancel". Most players view that that dialog box is annoying.
3. The safest way: If you want to enter the Inventory while in a server (not in a channel), just click on "Inventory" on the top part of the screen. Invites from other players in the server are not allowed those areas.

Duskwrath:I recommend tip no. 3 because it's time-saving and also gives more time to review your items and weapons you bought.

Happy Gaming!

YouTube videos not available for download?

If you want to store YouTube videos on your computer, you need an program that downloads videos from the Internet. (YouTube disallows the downloading of its videos directly from its website.) To search for that program, type in these keywords in your Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and Ask search fields as well as in the search field (not Google Custom Search) in a software download site (ex. Download.com) : "YouTube" (required) , "video" (optional) , "downloader" or "download tool" (required). For users that save their downloaded videos longer than the free trial period for most shareware, I recommend using software licensed as freeware. If you like, add "freeware" in your search query. Then review and download the software you like. If you have problems with your YouTube video downloading software, uninstall it and download a new one (recommended). This post is of great help to those who want to share a YouTube video with there friends. (We are not YouTube nor its affiliates and sponsors. — Duskwrath)

The Pushdown Effect (Part 1 of 3)

Have you seen ads on your website you're visiting? They are moving some sections of a website depending on their alignment and/or size that most people know these are annoying. The movements are called "pushdowns". A pushdown may be of two types:
1. S-pushdown - In this pushdown, an ad moves a section of a web page because of the former's size and alignment;
2. R-pushdown - In this pushdown, an ad increases the size of a page because of the former's size;
or both.

These pictures are a comparison of what the Friendster profile on Abby Banks display on Mozilla Firefox 3.0.5 with Adblock Plus enabled
and Windows Internet Explorer 7 without an ad-blocking add-on:

As it displayed on Firefox 3. My Adblock Plus prevents the ad, and therefore the pushdown, from displaying.
As it displayed on IE 7, without Adblock Pro. The ad and the resulting S-pushdown is shown.

These screenshots show that pushdowns can be "disappeared" from the page by using Adblock Plus for Firefox and Adblock Pro for Internet Explorer. Most websites using PHP and some using other languages used for web pages have ads, and almost half of them have pushdowns. It is better to use these add-ons listed above for the sake of yourself. So next time you visit a website, analyze the page contents and you'll probably see a pushdown or two.

Next month: How about the pushdowns on web pages that contain "Powered by ____Wiki"?

Sentinel will be full, Scourge two more to go

The Tauren Chieftain will be arriving at The Sentinel's Dawn Tavern at DotA Allstars version 6.60, filling up the fourth Sentinel tavern. But The Scourge's Dusk Tavern has two empty slots, the deciding factor of what are the last Scourge heroes to fill up this tavern. These rumored hero model candidates for these heroes are: Gnoll Warlord, Firelord, Archimonde, Dark Knight, Blue Dragonspawn Sorcerer and Tuskarr Chieftain. The first hero will be coming out in a later version not later than 6.69, and the second will appear in a hidden quest in 6.69 and will be playable in 6.70. (Rumors only! - Duskwrath)

An Alternative Way to Get Exclusive Emoticons on Plurk

Want more exclusive emoticons on Plurk without the requirements? I had found a way to do this. First, go to this link, then right-click on the emoticon you want. Next, press O on your keyboard, or click on "Copy Image Location" (make sure that the cursor is not pointed to a link with an arrow behind it). Last, paste it in the typing space in your Plurk page you're viewing (requires log in).
